Nigerian socialite Tiamiu Abdulrahman Kayode, popularly known as Rahman Jago, has reacted to reports surrounding the alleged arrest of his friend and fellow entertainer, Poco Lee, in the United Kingdom.
Poco Lee, whose real name is Iweh Odinaka, is reportedly being held on remand in the UK over an alleged assault offence. He is expected to appear before the Snaresbrook Crown Court in London in September.
Reacting to the development, Rahman Jago expressed sadness over what his friend is currently experiencing and urged the public not to exploit the situation for online attention.
He said he believes there is more to the matter than what has been made public, while calling on people to support Poco Lee as he goes through the difficult period.
“Seeing my brother go through such a serious and painful situation is heartbreaking. I know the person he is, and I truly believe there is more to this situation than what people may have heard, this is not the time to chase clout, we all know poco to be a joy giver and this is when he needs us the most. May we never be in situation where only God is our witness.”
Rahman Jago’s comments come amid growing reactions to reports of Poco Lee’s detention, with social media users expressing different opinions about the development.
Reports of Poco Lee’s detention began circulating online on August 19 after rapper Ms Jorji made allegations claiming that the dancer attempted to sexually assault her and her friend.
However, details surrounding the allegation remain limited, with the matter expected to come before the court during Poco Lee’s scheduled hearing.
Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of the community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom, had earlier confirmed reports of Poco Lee’s detention.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” he said.
Kuti also disclosed that he planned to attend the proceedings to offer support to the Nigerian dancer throughout the legal process.
