Popular gospel singer urges nationwide prayers over Oyo school abduction

Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has appealed to Nigerians to unite in prayer for the victims of the recent school abduction in Oyo State, stressing that prayer remains a vital tool in addressing the country’s security challenges.

Reacting to concerns from some citizens who believe prayers are no longer effective against insecurity, Alaseyori insisted that spiritual intervention is still making a difference.

“So many people are saying the prayer they are praying is not working, but believe me, prayers are working. Prayers are working,” she said.

The singer urged Nigerians not to politicise the abduction of the schoolchildren, but instead focus on supporting the victims, their families, security personnel and government officials through prayers.

“From the first person, from the President to the last person in this country, we all need prayers,” she said.

Alaseyori also defended the efforts of government authorities in tackling insecurity, maintaining that public officials are actively carrying out their responsibilities.

“You can’t say that the President or the Vice President are not doing what they have to do. They are working. You can’t say they are not working.”

She further noted that security operatives involved in rescue efforts require spiritual backing as they work to secure the release of those abducted.

“Even the security personnel, they might be close to where those children are to rescue them and then get jazzed not to see them. That’s the place of prayer.”

Describing the abducted pupils as individuals with families and loved ones, she appealed to Nigerians to avoid allowing political interests influence their response to the incident.

“But right now, let’s pray for our nation, Nigeria. Every individual in your houses, you need to pray for these children,” she said.

Alaseyori also encouraged prayers for soldiers and other security personnel risking their lives in rescue operations, adding that Nigeria’s challenges can only be overcome through collective effort rather than placing responsibility on one individual alone.
