APC chieftain decries poor power supply, seeks Tinubu’s intervention

Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has raised alarm over the country’s deteriorating electricity supply.

The former legislator said the development is causing serious hardship for Nigerians and undermining the Federal Government’s efforts to reform the power sector.

Speaking during a Sunday interview with journalists in Osogbo, Oyintiloye said that despite several reforms and repeated assurances from power sector authorities, electricity supply has continued to decline, turning life difficult for citizens.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to address the crisis and shield Nigerians from more suffering.

Oyintiloye pointed out that the inadequate power supply is taking a toll on small businesses, major industries, and households alike.

He added that the situation is even more troubling because it is happening during a severe heatwave, leaving many homes without electricity for cooling.

He also appealed to the President to set up a panel to probe the reasons behind repeated national grid collapses and the continued poor electricity supply, despite substantial funding directed to the sector.

“It is a terrible situation across Nigeria, with persistent and worsening epileptic power supply. “Many small-scale businesses and large industrial players are affected, while most homes cannot boast of even three hours of electricity supply daily for domestic use.

“Despite numerous reforms and promises, the national grid continues to collapse.

“The situation is compounded by gas supply shortages, weak transmission infrastructure, and chronic underinvestment across the power value chain. Nigerians are groaning,” he stated.

Oyintiloye also called on the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and his team to take swift action to improve the situation.

“This epileptic power supply has led to a series of peaceful protests nationwide. I appeal for the President’s intervention before these protests turn violent.

“The situation must be quickly addressed before it becomes a national embarrassment.

“Nigerians need to be informed whether the issue is due to structural failure or sabotage within the power sector. Electricity is essential for households and the survival of businesses.

“Since the beginning of the year, there has been no stable power supply, despite assurances and huge investments in the sector.

“Poor power supply should not be added to the challenges Nigerians are currently facing. The high cost of fuel has also made it difficult for those relying on generators to cope,” he said.

He nevertheless praised the President for the reforms currently being implemented in different sectors and emphasized the importance of a comprehensive investigation into the power sector.
