Army Chief urges recruits to tackle Terrorists, Bandits

As the Nigerian Government continues to address both emerging and persistent security threats, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged new recruits of the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State, to remain ready to combat terrorism and insurgency across the country.

General Oluyede issued this call on Saturday during the Passing Out Parade of 6,195 soldiers from the 88 Regular Recruits Intake. He stressed the need for courage, professionalism, and resilience when facing adversity, and underscored the importance of upholding the Nigerian Army’s core values.

He reminded the new soldiers that a soldier’s life requires sacrifice and patriotism, stating, “The Nigerian Army is a professional force charged with the mandate to safeguard the sovereignty of our great nation.”

“As you graduate today and take your place within this noble institution, know that you will become a vital part of our nation’s response to terrorism and insurgency. Wherever you are posted, let your actions reflect your training. Show courage when confronted with challenges,” he said.

General Oluyede recalled that the recruits’ journey began on 13 January 2025 with basic training and acknowledged the demanding path they had followed. “You are now equipped to face whatever lies ahead. You will encounter difficulties that may seem impossible at first, but you have been trained to overcome them,” he added.

He advised the recruits to remain loyal to the oath they had taken and uphold the Army’s values of discipline, loyalty, integrity, selfless service, courage, and respect for others. “These values will guide you through your toughest moments,” he said.

He also encouraged the soldiers to maintain excellence in their duties. “Let your conduct mirror your training. Demonstrate courage, remain trustworthy, and commit yourself to excellence, determination, and selfless service,” he urged.

General Oluyede assured them that their welfare remains a priority. “Take a short but well-deserved break and prepare to welcome the next batch of recruits. The selection process for the 89 Regular Recruits Intake is already at an advanced stage. The Army Headquarters will continue to support you in achieving your training goals,” he concluded.
