Court strikes out case against man who allegedly threatened Kano

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday struck out the case against Sanusi Dankaka, who was accused of threatening to release nude videos and photographs of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf through his Facebook page.

Justice Salim Ibrahim struck out the case after the prosecution counsel, A.Y. Afegbua, requested the withdrawal of the charge against Dankaka, the only defendant in the matter.

Dankaka’s lawyer, Kauna Penzin, did not oppose the application, prompting the judge to strike out the case in a brief ruling.

The matter had earlier been adjourned until December 7 for trial after the defendant pleaded not guilty. However, it was subsequently listed as number 28, the final case on Tuesday’s cause list.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dankaka was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime offences.

The Department of State Services (DSS), in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/699/2026 and filed on October 22 by Afegbua, accused him of committing the alleged offences in October 2026.

In the first count, Dankaka and other individuals still at large were accused of attempting to circulate malicious content through his Facebook account, “Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya,” while allegedly operating in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

He was accused of claiming to possess nude videos and photographs of Governor Yusuf and “and threatened to release them to the public, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27 (1)(6) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended and punishable under Section 24 (1) of the same Act.”

The second count alleged that Dankaka and others still at large used the same Facebook account, “Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya,” to publish malicious content claiming he possessed the said videos and photographs of the governor.

According to the DSS, Dankaka knew the publication was false but allegedly circulated it to cause annoyance, inconvenience, insult and harm to Yusuf’s reputation.

The agency stated that the alleged offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 24(1) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended.
