EXCLUSIVE: KRAD defeats incumbent, three others to win APC ticket for Osun Central

Renowned legal practitioner, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, popularly known as KRAD has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Osun Central Senatorial seat. 

Recall that Adegoke had last month declared his intention to run for the senate seat.

NewsClick Nigeria reports that the primary election held on Monday in the 10 local governments making up the senatorial district, including the state capital, Osogbo. The keenly contested ticket had five aspirants including the incumbent, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi-Ajagunla.

However, upon the end of the electioneering process, Adegoke was declared winner having polled a total of 26,655 votes against his closest rival and incumbent senator, Olubiyi who polled a total of 13,138 votes. Olubiyi, originally elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 defected to the APC in 2024 alongside other five National Assembly members.

Announcing the result on Monday night, Chairman of Osun Central Primary Election Committee, Ayo Bayo “having polled the highest number of votes, Kunle Adegoke, SAN is now declared winner of the Osun Central senatorial primary election”.

According to him, “Yomi Ogunwale received 2,925 votes, Akintunde Adegboye got 342 votes, Fadeyi Olubiyi 13,138 votes, Kunle Adegoke polled 26,655 votes and Olufemi Oyetola got 67 votes.”

Adegoke was a frontline aspirant for the Osun state governorship election slated for August 15. However, Bolaji Oyebamiji, a former Commissioner for Finance in the state, emerged as the party’s flagbearer after an internal selection process overseen by the party’s national leadership making Adegoke and a host of other aspirants to pledge their support.

The legal juggernaut had during his formal declaration pledged that if he gets the APC ticket and wins the election in 2027 to run a people-centered legislation that addresses economic growth, youth empowerment, and social development; effective constituency engagement to ensure continuous dialogue and feedback; transparent leadership anchored on accountability and service delivery and inclusive governance that carries along all demographics within Osun Central.

 

KRAD dedicates victory to God

Speaking exclusively to NewsClick Nigeria in a telephone chat after his victory, Adegoke dedicated his emergence to God and the good people of Osun Central especially those who trooped out to vote for him at the primaries.

He assured his constituency that he’d not disappoint them and urged them to mobilize strongly and vote him and all APC Candidates across Osun at the forthcoming elections starting with August 15th gubernatorial elections.

He praised his supporters and well wishers for staying the cause and believe that a day like this will come.
