Abdulmumin Jibrin, who represents the Kiru/Bebeji constituency in the House of Representatives, has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jibrin, a close associate of Rabiu Kwankwaso — the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former Kano governor — made the move just two months after his expulsion from the NNPP over alleged anti-party conduct and unpaid dues.
Before now, he had kept silent regarding his next political step, though his links to President Bola Tinubu had sparked widespread speculation about a possible return to the APC.
In a statement released on Monday, the lawmaker confirmed his defection and announced his support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
He explained that he was welcomed by a large crowd of supporters in Kofa, Bebeji LGA of Kano, where he officially revealed his exit from the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
“In a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in my hometown of Kofa, Bebeji, Kano,” he said.
“The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for a second term in office.”
According to him, more than 2,000 Islamic clerics were also present, offering prayers for President Tinubu and for the progress of Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and the country as a whole.
“Earlier, about 2,000 Ulamas from my constituency offered special prayers for the President and peaceful coexistence, progress, and development of Kiru/Bebeji, Kano, and Nigeria at large,” he said.
Jibrin previously served as the director-general of the Tinubu Support Groups before leaving APC for NNPP in 2022.
