A leading governorship aspirant in Nasarawa State and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Hassan Liman, has declared that he will not step down for any other contender in the All Progressives Congress governorship primary.
Liman made this known on Sunday in Lafia while reacting to speculations that he might withdraw from the race in favour of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s preferred aspirant, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada.
He stated that even if approached by the governor or other political stakeholders, he would not withdraw from the contest.
The SAN, who visited the APC state secretariat to engage party executives, called for a free, fair, and credible primary election scheduled for Thursday.
He also pledged to abide by the party’s rules and processes to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the primaries.
According to him, Governor Sule would not pressure him to step down, describing the governor as a democrat.
“He said: “Governor Sule is a democrat. I believe that he will not ask anyone to step down. As far as I am concerned, he has said times without number that everyone who has purchased a form has the right to contest, and we are going to contest.
“So, the question of stepping down does not arise. I am not stepping down for anyone. No one has approached me to step down, and I am not going to step down because that issue is not even on the table.”
Liman further insisted that there is no crisis within the APC, noting that every aspirant has the constitutional right to contest elections.
He added that while the governor has the right to support any candidate, such preference does not override the party’s primary election process.
