The (NSC) has confirmed that Nigeria has officially entered a bid to host the 2031 African Games, with delegates from the (AUSC) expected in the country for an inspection tour.
The delegation’s visit is set for March 30 to 31, 2026, in , representing a key step in Nigeria’s push to secure hosting rights for the continent’s top multi-sport competition.
According to the NSC, the bid aligns with Nigeria’s broader ambition to strengthen its position as a leading sporting nation in Africa.
The commission highlighted that the country’s experience in staging major international events, alongside continued investment in sports development, makes it a strong candidate.

During the tour, AUSC officials will inspect major sports venues, infrastructure, and Nigeria’s readiness to host the Games.
The visit will also allow the country to showcase its organisational strength, technical capability, and dedication to delivering a world-class tournament.
The visiting team includes senior officials and technical experts tasked with assessing bidding countries based on established hosting standards for the African Games.
Hosting the 2031 edition is projected to boost infrastructure growth, generate economic benefits, increase youth engagement in sports, and further elevate Nigeria’s standing within the African sporting community.
