Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, on Tuesday night paid a visit to former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, shortly after securing clearance for the presidential primary of the Nigerian Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting between the two NDC figures took place at Kwankwaso’s residence in Maitama, Abuja.
Confirming the visit in a post on X on Wednesday, Kwankwaso described Obi as “my brother” while expressing confidence about the party’s future.
“Last night, I received a courtesy visit from my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, shortly after his successful screening as the presidential aspirant of our party, the NDC. The future is bright and full of promise,” Kwankwaso wrote.
The visit followed the recent defection of both politicians to the NDC earlier in May 2026 after leaving the African Democratic Congress.
Their alliance has sparked fresh conversations about possible opposition coalitions ahead of the 2027 elections, with growing speculation that both leaders could emerge on a joint presidential ticket.
On Tuesday, Obi was cleared unopposed by the party’s screening panel after reportedly emerging as the sole aspirant to obtain the presidential nomination form.
The two politicians, who contested the 2023 presidential election on separate platforms, have continued discussions on building a stronger opposition bloc against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Photos from the visit showed both former governors in a relaxed conversation during the meeting.
