The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have strongly criticised the assault on the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Danko Wasagu LGA of Kebbi state.
Bandits killed Hassan Yakubu Makuku, the vice-principal, and abducted 25 students during the early-morning invasion.
Ini Ememobong, PDP national publicity secretary, said the tragedy highlights the “alarming rise in insecurity” nationwide. He accused the federal government under President Bola Tinubu of prioritising the “politicisation of governance over the protection of citizens”.
Ememobong said the government must take responsibility for failing to safeguard lives and property. He extended condolences to the bereaved family, parents of the kidnapped children, and the Kebbi state government.
The former Akwa Ibom commissioner added that recent abductions in Nasarawa, Plateau, Kano and Katsina show that insecurity “is clearly not the hope promised Nigerians”.
Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC national publicity secretary, described the attack as “another painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across the country”. He noted that the party has repeatedly urged the government to address the crisis with “seriousness and urgency”, but the administration has “turned a blind eye to the suffering of ordinary Nigerians”.
He warned that the Kebbi abduction must not mirror the Chibok girls’ ordeal of 2014, adding that any government unable to secure its schools cannot credibly claim to be protecting its citizens.
Abdullahi urged President Tinubu to ensure the girls are rescued “without delay” and called on security agencies to act with “urgency, clarity, and competence”. He emphasised the need for full deployment of intelligence resources and enhanced coordination among security units.
Earlier, Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, said Tinubu has ordered immediate action to rescue the abducted students.
“Our security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice,” Idris said.
