The forum of state chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the suspension of two members over accusations of anti-party conduct and attempts to undermine preparations for the upcoming national convention.
The decision was taken during a meeting held on Tuesday at the party’s FCT secretariat in Abuja, presided over by Edward Percy Masha, acting secretary of the forum.
Those suspended are Austine Nwachukwu, chairman of Imo PDP, and Amah Abraham Nnana, chairman of Abia PDP.
The forum alleged that the two chairmen were in collaboration with “external forces” believed to be linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to interfere with arrangements for the convention scheduled for November 15–16.
In a communique released after the session, the forum described their move to obtain a court order to halt the convention as “a betrayal of trust and collective resolve”.
The statement was signed by Tony Aziegbemi, chairman of the forum, and Edward Percy Masha, its secretary.
The forum further announced Tony Aziegbemi, chairman of Edo PDP, as its new chairman.
The party noted that discussions during the meeting focused on issues affecting internal cohesion, the condition of the opposition nationwide, and strategic readiness for the convention.
The forum also denounced what it referred to as the APC’s “undemocratic and desperate attempts” to coerce PDP governors, lawmakers, and other members into defecting.
“The ruling party’s conduct amounts to an assault on democracy and a dangerous move toward creating a one-party state,” the communique stated.
A vote of confidence was also passed on the national working committee (NWC), the PDP governors’ forum, and other statutory organs.
The party restated its dedication to collaborating with its leadership to rebuild and strengthen the PDP as a viable alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
Members were urged to stay calm, maintain unity, and uphold the party’s principles “despite ongoing political distractions.”
