The Rivers Police Command has refuted a viral social media video alleging that herdsmen launched an attack in the state but were repelled by Ijaw youths.
The Command described the claim as false and intentionally misleading.
In a statement on Wednesday, Grace Iringe-Koko, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers Police Command, said the video was fabricated by individuals seeking to incite fear and disrupt the peace currently enjoyed across the state.
According to the Command, there is no incident, report, or intelligence indicating that Fulani herdsmen have attacked any community in Rivers State. It said the narrative was a “deliberate attempt by mischief makers to undermine the prevailing peace and stability.”
The police urged residents to disregard the viral video and avoid circulating unverified information that could trigger unnecessary tension or harm the state’s reputation.
Iringe-Koko noted that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains fully committed to protecting lives and property.
“Robust security measures are in place, including operational patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads,” she said, adding that Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju is prioritising transparent and accountable policing.
The Command further advised the public to stay calm, remain vigilant, and verify information through official channels before sharing it.
