Police nabs three suspects over woman’s murder in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three men in connection with the killing of a woman in Toro Local Government Area.

Police said the arrests were made on November 2, following a report of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. The incident occurred on October 31 at about 7:30 p.m., according to a statement issued on Tuesday by police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib.

Habib said the Officer-in-Charge of Zalau Police Out-Station reported that the suspects allegedly attacked Khadija, also known as Nana, with a cutlass, seriously injuring her head.

The victim, a resident of Unguwan Gangare in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, was taken to General Hospital, Toro. She later died, police said.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives of the Out-Station swiftly mobilised and rushed the victim to General Hospital, Toro, for urgent medical attention. She was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty,” the statement said.

Police identified the suspects as Aliyu Musa, 25, of Babale in Jos North; Samsu Musa, 25, of Dawa Village in Zalau Ward, Toro; and Auwalu Kabiru, 22, of Tilden Fulani, Toro. The victim’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary for preservation and an autopsy.

Habib said police were trying to locate and contact the woman’s relatives. The case will be transferred to the Bauchi State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the killing and pledged that justice would be pursued.

“The Commissioner of Police condemns the dastardly act in its totality and assures the public that justice will be served,” the statement added.

The command urged residents to share timely information with the nearest police formation. The arrests come days after police reported arresting four youths over the alleged abduction and gang rape of a 12-year-old girl in Sakwa District, and a 15-year-old boy over the alleged defilement of a 10-year-old girl in Buskuri Village.
