Police, security chiefs launch manhunt for killers of Ondo monarch

Security agencies have launched a coordinated manhunt for the killers of a traditional ruler in Agamo Town, Ondo State, following a joint security visit led by the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal.

Lawal, together with top commanders of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Department of State Services, visited the community on February 19 to assess the security situation after the deadly attack.

The visit came after the killing of Oba Kehinde Jacob Faledon, who was reportedly attacked by armed men at about 7:10 p.m. on February 18, sparking fear among residents.

Police authorities disclosed that preliminary findings indicated about six masked gunmen invaded the monarch’s residence, abducted him from his compound, and later killed him.

During the visit to the palace, the police commissioner condoled with the royal family and assured the community that security agencies were working jointly to apprehend those responsible. He also ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical teams and operational assets to the area to intensify search operations and prevent further attacks.

Lawal reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and credited the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for continued operational support in tackling crime nationwide.

The police appealed to residents to provide useful information to investigators, assuring that efforts were underway to restore calm and ensure justice for the slain monarch.
