Those who accused me of destabilising PDP are now defecting to APC — Wike

The minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that those who once accused him of causing instability within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are now defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made this remark in Abuja on Wednesday during the launch of the construction of the main carriageways of the outer southern expressway from the Ring Road I junction to the Ring Road II junction.

According to the FCT minister, the former PDP members who have now joined the APC should acknowledge his efforts in contributing to the party they now belong to.

Wike further mentioned that he would soon address Nigerians on the recent developments.

“I have been watching television and social media. People who said I want to destabilise the party and that I’m working with the APC, all of them now are in the APC,” Wike said.

“If it is true, they should commend me for working for where they are heading to. I should be commended for doing a good job for them. I have told people that politics is for the mature.”

The main opposition party has been embroiled in a leadership crisis since the conclusion of the 2023 elections.

This situation has led to multiple defections from the PDP to the APC and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

On Tuesday, Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu, left the PDP to join the APC.

Less than a day later, Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa state, also resigned from the opposition party.

In April, Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta state, moved from the PDP to the APC.

By June, Umo Eno, governor of Akwa Ibom, also left the PDP for the APC.

Following Diri’s departure, the PDP now retains control of only eight states nationwide.

Some members of the party have previously held Wike, a PDP member currently serving in an APC-led administration, responsible for the turmoil within the opposition party.
