Troops nab two fake policemen with cannabis in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested two impostors posing as policemen at Takum junction in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to reports, the troops, working with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), acted on credible intelligence to intercept the suspects. The men, dressed in mobile police uniforms, were caught with two Toyota Hilux vehicles loaded with substances suspected to be cannabis sativa.

A statement by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, confirmed that preliminary investigation revealed none of the occupants were serving policemen.

Investigations also traced the cannabis-laden vehicles to Akure, Ondo State, noting they were headed for Adamawa State before being intercepted.

One of the suspects has been identified as Monday George, a 71-year-old dismissed Police ASP, while the second was identified as 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche.

The occupants of the second Hilux abandoned the vehicle and fled upon sighting the troops.

In total, 1,134 blocks of cannabis were recovered from the two vehicles. Both the suspects and the seized exhibits have since been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and prosecution.

The arrests form part of ongoing security operations in Taraba State under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, designed to flush out bandits and other criminal elements.

Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, commended the troops and NDLEA operatives for their collaboration and resilience. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to making Taraba State unsafe for criminals and drug traffickers.

He also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen ongoing operations across the state.
