Two Delta jets collide at LaGuardia runway

Two planes operated by a Delta Air Lines subsidiary collided on the runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday night, according to the airline and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The incident, involving two Endeavor Air aircraft, occurred at 9:58 p.m. (0158 GMT on Thursday) when one jet was landing and the other preparing for take-off. Authorities confirmed that one person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while Delta reported a flight attendant sustained a minor injury.

Images circulated by US media — though not immediately verified — appeared to show significant damage to the nose of one aircraft. Despite the collision, LaGuardia Airport, one of the busiest in the United States, continued operations without disruption.

Delta described the event as “a low-speed collision during taxi” and said it was cooperating fully with aviation authorities to review safety protocols. Preliminary findings indicate that the wing of the departing aircraft, bound for Roanoke, Virginia, struck the fuselage of the arriving plane.

The airline confirmed that a total of 93 passengers and crew were on board the two aircraft.
