A bloc within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has approved the expulsion of three governors over alleged anti-party conduct.
During the session, the faction confirmed the removal of Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo; Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi; Dauda Lawal, governor of Zamfara; Adolphus Wabara, former chair of the board of trustees (BoT); Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, former minister; Taofeek Arapaja, deputy national chairman (south); along with several other senior members.
The resolution emerged on Tuesday at the 103rd meeting of the national executive committee (NEC) convened at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja.
Mohammed Abdulrahman, acting national chairman, stated that the expulsions were the result of continuous breaches of standing court rulings, which he said had weakened the party’s integrity.
The NEC additionally upheld the dissolution of party leadership structures in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti, while maintaining the current organisation in Edo.
Samuel Anyanwu, the national secretary, presented the communiqué released after the meeting.
According to the communiqué, “The National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 18 November 2025 to address recent developments affecting the unity, stability, and constitutional order of our Party,” emphasizing that the gathering became necessary at a time Nigerians expect leadership from the PDP.
The statement noted that NEC convened to reinforce truth, justice, discipline, and respect for the rule of law, raising alarm over the conduct of certain members who flouted valid court directives by participating in what was described as a “purported and unauthorized convention,” an act said to have fueled confusion, divisions, and the defection of governors and legislators nationwide.
NEC reiterated that the party’s authority is rooted in strict adherence to its Constitution and that of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, rejecting what it termed impunity.
The committee also reviewed the report presented by the Acting National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, outlining violations of Articles 58(1) and 59(1), which include anti-party behavior, disregard for court rulings, and actions deemed damaging to the PDP’s image.
NEC approved the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against several individuals, including Adolphus Wabara, Olabode George, Ben N. Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), Bala Mohammed, Oluseyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Adamu Burga, Umar Sani, Udom Emmanuel, and Emmanuel Enorden.
The communiqué further stated that Chief Ali Odefa is required to repay all salaries and allowances received after his expulsion on 12 December 2024.
NEC also endorsed Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck as Acting National Vice Chairman (South East) and ratified the dissolution of party executive committees in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti. Caretaker committees are to be established immediately, while the Edo State Exco led by Barr. Nosa Ogieva was confirmed.
Additionally, NEC directed deputies in all affected NWC positions to step in as acting substantive holders due to the expulsions. It formalized the appointment of Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman.
The communiqué also instructed the legal team and NWC to begin constitutional processes to reclaim seats of all elected officials who defected from the PDP in line with Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution.
NEC approved a comprehensive reconciliation effort to mend divisions without compromising discipline and scheduled a nationwide membership audit ahead of the 2027 elections.
The committee acknowledged members’ concerns but assured that all decisions were made to stabilize and strengthen the party, stressing that the era of indiscipline is over and the PDP will not tolerate lawlessness or personal agendas.
Mao Ohuabunwa, BoT chairman, and Abdulrahman encouraged members to stay committed, expressing optimism that the party will overcome its ongoing challenges.
Background:
The PDP has faced prolonged internal turmoil, highlighted by a recent convention in Ibadan held by a faction amid contrasting court rulings. At the convention, Wike and his allies were expelled, a move which they dismissed as invalid.
Earlier today, tension escalated at the party’s Abuja headquarters as police deployed teargas to disperse clashes between supporters of opposing factions. The Wike-backed bloc and the Turaki-led NWC had scheduled separate meetings at the Wadata Plaza headquarters on the same day, triggering confrontations that required heavy police intervention.
