AS Monaco, Paul Pogba end contract by mutual agreement

AS Monaco and French midfielder Paul Pogba have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, bringing their partnership to an early conclusion ahead of the start of the new season.

The agreement, which began during the 2025 pre-season, was originally set to keep Pogba at the Principality club until June 2027. However, both parties concluded that the objectives established at the beginning of the relationship had only been partly achieved.

Monaco thanked the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner for his professionalism and commitment during his time with the club. The club also credited Pogba with successfully returning to top-level football after a prolonged absence and contributing his experience to the first-team squad.

Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro said the outcome was disappointing but should not overshadow the significance of Pogba’s return to competitive football. He also praised the midfielder’s influence on younger players and described his attitude throughout his time at the club as exemplary.

Pogba, meanwhile, expressed his appreciation to Monaco’s president, management, teammates, staff and supporters for their backing. He acknowledged that he had featured in fewer matches than anticipated but said he remained grateful for the opportunity to represent the club and the Principality.

He ended his message with the club’s traditional rallying cry, “Daghe Munegu !”
