Bruno Fernandes recently spoke to Portuguese media, where the 31-year-old midfielder shared insights about his almost move to Saudi Arabia this summer. He also revealed that, on the field, Bernardo Silva can be more irritating than himself.
Fernandes explained, “I knew very well that Manchester United wanted me to leave. I guess the club didn’t do so because Ruben Amorim wanted me to stay, but I could sense that even if I left, it wouldn’t be a bad thing from the club’s perspective.”
He added that he consulted Cristiano Ronaldo about the situation: “Ronaldo gave me some advice, but the final decision was always mine. I decided to stay because I truly love this club, but loyalty isn’t valued as much as it used to be in football today.”
Fernandes also reflected on Ruben Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United and the challenges the manager encountered. “It was a difficult start for him. He came here after winning everything at Sporting Lisbon, only to face a team with extremely low morale,” he said. “We performed well in the Europa League, but we couldn’t maintain consistency in the league.”
The Manchester United captain also addressed perceptions about himself on the pitch, joking that he isn’t the most “disliked” player: “My image on the pitch always makes people think I’m a complainer, but Bernardo Silva is more annoying than me.” He also shared Silva’s “secret”: “He always speaks very politely, which I can’t do! My problem is that I always like to wave my arms when I talk.”
