Oluwafemiayo sets new world record, wins fourth world title at para-powerlifting 

Nigerian para-powerlifting star Folashade Oluwafemiayo has once again surpassed her own world record in the women’s over 86kg category.

The 40-year-old powered through a remarkable 168kg lift to secure the gold medal at the 2025 World Para-Powerlifting Championship held in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday.

China’s Wenjun Zhu finished with the silver medal, while Iran’s Nikoo Rozbahani took bronze.

This victory marks Oluwafemiayo’s fourth world title, adding to her previous wins at the 2017 Mexico City World Championships, the 2019 Nur-Sultan World Championship, and the 2021 Tbilisi World Championships.

At the Paris Paralympics, she made history as the first para-athlete to lift 167kg, earning gold for Nigeria.

Nigeria also celebrated more victories as Rita Ferdinard clinched gold in the women’s 79kg category on her World Championship debut. She successfully lifted 142kg on her first attempt and increased to 148kg on her second to claim the top spot.

Additionally, Tolulope Ogundolie secured a silver medal for Nigeria in the women’s 41kg category, further boosting the nation’s medal tally.
