Thomas Frank remains under pressure to keep his position at Tottenham following Saturday’s home loss to West Ham.
There is increasing dissatisfaction within the club over a disappointing sequence of results, even though there has been a willingness to allow the Dane time to try to reverse the team’s fortunes.
Daily Mail Sport revealed on Saturday that the north London side are now looking at the possibility of changing head coach, although no immediate announcement is being lined up.
For now, the intention is for Frank to remain in charge for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund. After that, doubts persist over how much longer he will be afforded to steady the situation.
Frank is likely to face questions about his future at Monday’s press conference, scheduled for the afternoon ahead of the Dortmund match.
He is expected to oversee training earlier that day and then appear before the media alongside a player, though this has not been fully confirmed.
The Times reports that a shortage of suitable replacements is causing concern for Spurs if they decide to dismiss Frank, although talks regarding potential successors are understood to have taken place.
High-profile candidates such as Xabi Alonso, Mauricio Pochettino and Andoni Iraola are not expected to be available until the summer, raising the possibility that recently appointed assistant John Heitinga could step in as a short-term solution until the end of the season.
Tottenham currently sit 14th in the Premier League, only 10 points clear of the relegation zone, and club executives are eager to avoid being pulled into a battle for survival.
In the lead-up to the West Ham match, the message was that Frank retained the backing of the hierarchy and that there was little desire for change. However, following the hostile atmosphere inside the stadium during the 93rd-minute defeat, it is believed the club are now considering every option.
Heitinga joined Frank’s coaching staff last week and, although it was stressed at the time that the former Ajax coach was not being lined up as a caretaker manager, his arrival gives Tottenham a temporary alternative should they decide to end Frank’s seven-month tenure.
Spurs have managed just one victory in their last eight matches across all competitions, and supporters at home mocked Frank with chants of ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ after Callum Wilson’s late winner sealed West Ham’s victory on Saturday.
