Ahead of Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, several Super Eagles players have expressed confidence and determination as preparations conclude in South Africa.
Speaking from the team’s camp in Polokwane, Wilfred Ndidi, Calvin Bassey, Terem Moffi, and captain William Troost-Ekong shared their mindset going into the crucial encounter.
Ndidi stated, “We know where we are at the moment, and these two games are very crucial. But first of all, we focus on the Lesotho one and then look forward to Benin. The most important one right now is the Lesotho game.”
In his remarks, Bassey said, “We just need to remain calm and do what we have to do. I think this is not the first time, for club or country, that any of us have been in high-pressure moments. So I think we’ve got an experienced team to handle situations. It’s just about making sure we do everything right.”
Terem Moffi added, “We (the guys) are really confident about qualifying for the World Cup. We have to do our part and wait for the results of the other teams. So we are really confident things will go our way.”
Captain Troost-Ekong wrapped it up with, “We remain optimistic. We are going to fight till the end; we have the belief and will never stop believing. Two important games now — Friday is the first one, and afterwards we’ll get back to Nigeria. But for now, we will focus on Lesotho. The boys are in camp, focused, and the spirit is high as well.
“It’s been the same for us all along; we have to win this game. Yeah, it’s good that we’ve seen some opportunities now, more than we saw before. Like I said, we are very optimistic and just focused on the game on Friday.”
