Olukere warns youths against cultism, vows to invoke spirit of ancestors if activity continues

The Olukere of Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Ganiyu Obasoyin has warned youths in the town who belong to one secret cults or the other capable of threatening the peaceful co-existence of the town to renounce their membership or risk being invoked with the spirit of the ancestors.

The monarch handed down the warning during a stakeholders meeting with traditional chiefs, community leaders and youths from various quarters at his palace in Ikere Ekiti area local government of Ekiti State.
Obasoyin said the warning was important following the incessant killings and reprisals attacks by some suspected cult groups which he according to him had left about fourteen youths dead in the last one month in the town.

The traditional ruler limplored landlords and landladies to always do thorough investigations about those who approach them for house rent to be sure of their identities before renting out such houses .

He admonished them to report any person or group of persons who they suspect to have been involved in the unwholesome act to the appropriate authorities, adding that the community would not hesitate to deal decisively with any house owner who fails to report any suspected cult member.

He disclosed that machineries have been set in motion to fish out the perpetrators who have engaged themselves in the town about one month now, warning that he would no longer tolerate any form of blood shed again in the town.

Obasoyin who vows to invoke the spirit of the ancestors on anyone who fails to heed the clarion call on cultism in the town also urged those that have the intention of luring youths into cultism to retrace their steps or be ready to be banished from the town.

The Olukere also seized the opportunity to appeal to parents to warn their wards from joining any secret cult as anyone or family caught will be severely dealt with.

He later encouraged the youths in the town to do everything possible to fish out those involved in secret cults and remain vigilant.

He advised them to form a security network to checkmate the activities of cultism in the town as he also decried the alarming rate of drug abuse among youths which he said, if left unchecked, could jeopardise and mar the future of the town.

The Monarch therefore, pleaded with parents and guardians to stop living I don’t care life style but choose to be good role models to their children and should monitor the activities of their children and the kind of company they keep.

He observed that drug abuse has exposed the society to mental disorderliness, robbery, rape as well as other social vices amongst the youths.

Some of the stakeholders who spoke to newsclickng.com said the messages taken from the meeting will be put into act while also passing it down to those who could not attend.

Among issues raised by some residents who also speak with our crew was the allegation levelled against some commercial bike riders known as Okada riders who have formed the habit of masking their faces while on duty which made identification of the rider difficult.

According to them some Okada riders hide under this masking phenomenon to perpetrate evil as they were not easy identified.

They called on Olukere to summon the leadership of Okada riders Association in the town, to address them on the proper ways of using the face mask as against the way thier members are masking their faces.

This according to them will go along way check mating some evil acts going on in the area as easy identification by the public will be possible.
