The management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced plans to introduce new technological innovations for better service delivery for passengers at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.
Some of the innovations to be introduced by FAAN include; e-tags to ease traffic flow at the toll gate, banning illegal car hire operators, ending touting and introducing pay-parking to stop crowded environments at the airport, among others.
Kabir Mohammed, the new Airport Manager/Regional General Manager North Central of FAAN, who disclosed this at a media parley at the weekend, stated that the new order at the airport will give a five-star experience to the airport users.
Mohammed said, “Soon, we are changing the face of the NAIAA. Coming into the airport before now, traffic would scare you but we have improved on the traffic flow.”
According to him, e-tags will soon be introduced at the toll gate and soon the indiscriminate parking at the airport will end. In his words: “We will discourage that by introducing pay parking at the airport so that all those littering at the airport with cars will stop.”
Mohammed disclosed that illegal car hire operators at the airport will be sent parking, stressing that the practice of coming to the terminal building, harassing passengers must stop from the end of the month.
The FAAN Regional Manager revealed that the mosque at the airport is being relocated to an appropriate location and local kiosks around the airport will be removed.
“We stop all forms of illegal activities and extortion. We are ending the practice where cleaners, especially in the restrooms harass passengers.
“Going forward, once a passenger is in the restroom, the cleaner leaves until the passenger is done, then he or she could return to clean again. A cleaner shouldn’t be opening toilet doors, turning on taps and serving tissue papers to passengers. Passengers know how to use those.
“We can’t get it right 100 per cent but let there be some semblance of civility at the airport” Mohammed emphasized.
