Lagos state government has sealed the offices of 21 money lending companies in the state for infractions.

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode on Tuesday during a press briefing to mark the second year of the second term of the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu held at the press centre, Alausa.

He explained that there are 623 registered money lending companies in the state, and 474 existing others got their certificates renewed, while 149 new ones  just applied for registration.

Layode stated that, in order not to turn the money lending companies to avenues to swindle members of the public, his ministry give them close monitoring, and some got their certificates withdrawn because they did not pay tax and that some of them changed their office addresses without informing the ministry.

Layode maintained that his ministry also has regular dialogue with the religious bodies in the state through the Nigeria Inter Religious Council (NIREC) so as to foster peace among the religious bodies and their members.

Layode added that in the last one year, 116 people had applied for naturalisation, out of which 63 applications were being considered in conjunction with the Nigeria Immigration Service, Department of State Service and other relevant agencies.
