Maryamu Idris, Managing Director of NNPC Trading Limited, has taken up the role of Nigeria’s National Representative to the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) announced the appointment in a statement on Thursday, congratulating her on the new responsibility.

By combining her leadership at NNPC Trading Limited with her role at OPEC, Idris will influence both national oil management and global energy policy. She will serve as Nigeria’s principal technical liaison at OPEC while continuing to lead the trading arm of NNPC.

As a member of OPEC’s Economic Commission Board, she will contribute to technical discussions and policy advice. Her work will involve close coordination with the OPEC Governor and key national institutions, including NNPCL, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. This collaboration will help align Nigeria’s energy priorities with wider OPEC goals.

Idris earned a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Abuja and an M.Sc. in Energy Economics from the University of Dundee, Scotland.

Her career spans over 20 years in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. She began at the Bureau of Public Enterprises in 1999, later working with the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative from 2006 to 2009. She joined NNPC, where she progressed through roles in crude oil marketing, pricing, and valuation.

At NNPC Trading Limited, she served as Executive Director of Crude and Condensate (2022–2024), Executive Director of Planning and Commercial (2024–2025), before becoming Managing Director in April 2025.
