New Commissioner for Insurance, Omosehin assumes office; Thomas bows out

The new Commissioner for Insurance, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin on Friday (today) formally resumed duty at the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) Head Office in Abuja.

Omosehin resumed duty with his team including Deputy Commissioner (Technical), Ekerete Ola Gam-Ikon and Deputy Commissioner (Finance and Administration), Dr. Usman Jankara; Dr. Miriam Kene Kachikwu — Member; Adeniyi Olusegun Fabikun – Member and Umar Khalifa Mohammed — Member.

The new Commissioner and his team were received by senior members of staff of the Commission.

NewsClick Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu had on Friday, April 19, 2024, appointed Omosehin as Commissioner for Insurance/Chief Executive Officer National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).

The President also approved the appointment of Ms. Halima Kyari as Chairperson of the Commission.

The CFI upon his arrival had an interactive session with the entire Management and Staff of the Commission. during his opening remark he stated the new Executive Management would set a new tone for the Nigerian Insurance Sector.

He noted that the Federal Government intends to achieve a $1Trillion economy by 2026. According to him, with this target in cognizance, the Insurance Sector is expected to play a critical role and contribute to its achievement.

His predecessor, Mr. Olorundare Sunday Thomas who was in attendance to officially handover to the new CFI thanked the staff for their support while in office.

Meanwhile the Deputy Commissioner (Finance and Administration), Dr. Usman Jankara Jimada, in a remark after receiving his official letter of appointment on Thursday in Abuja, said: “Earlier today, I received with immense gratitude the official letter appointing me the Deputy Commissioner of the National Insurance Commission. I am deeply humbled that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, considered me worthy of this position and graciously approved my appointment. Alhamdulillah.

“I wish to respectfully express my deepest appreciation to His Excellency for entrusting me with this significant role. It is indeed a rare privilege and a great responsibility that I do not take lightly. I am genuinely thankful for the faith and confidence that His Excellency has placed in me.

“To the selfless patriots and benefactors who nominated me, even without my knowledge, I am profoundly grateful. Your unwavering belief in me is truly humbling and inspiring to others. It is a testament that dedication, honesty, and principles are recognized and valued in Nigeria.

“I have been advised that the best way to show my gratitude is by continuing to uphold the time-honored principles of ethics, selflessness, and honesty, as well as dedicating myself to the advancement of the Nigerian insurance industry. I am committed to embodying these values with integrity and making a positive impact in my new role.
