The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has refuted claims of an explosion at the Warri Refinery.

The company confirmed that the refinery is currently loading eight trucks of diesel and kerosene per day.

In a statement on Friday, NNPC Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, clarified that operations at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) were intentionally curtailed on 25 January 2025 to carry out essential maintenance.

Soneye dismissed reports of an explosion as false and misleading.

“NNPC Ltd. wishes to clarify that there was no explosion at WRPC. Any reports suggesting otherwise are entirely untrue.

“On 25 January, operations at WRPC Area 1 were deliberately reduced to facilitate intervention works on critical equipment, including field instruments affecting steady operations.

“These interventions are crucial to ensuring the production of on-specification finished and intermediate products, particularly **Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and kerosene (Kero).”

He further noted that routine maintenance is progressing as planned, and Area 1 is expected to resume operations within a few days.

Despite the maintenance, AGO loading has continued at an average of eight trucks per day, with adequate supply available for ongoing distribution.

Soneye reassured stakeholders that NNPC remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted product supply and appreciates their patience during these essential maintenance activities.
