When on May 20, 2019 President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of Captain Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu as the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), not many were set for the wind of change that was to blow across the length and breadth of the nation’s aviation sector months afterwards.

However, Captain Yadudu’s giant strides in repositioning FAAN did not come as surprise to many aviation watchers who had earlier known him as a diligent professional and technocrat.

With an enviable track record that has spanned decades, the FAAN MD has not for one day relented on his ‘mission to rebuild’ FAAN agenda since assumption of office in May.

Aside his mission to rebuild FAAN, Yadudu also make the interest of his staff uppermost knowing quiet well that only a motivated staff force can help drive home his ‘mission to rebuild’ agenda in FAAN.
Little wonder in less than six months of taking over FAAN, Yadudu’s exceptional leadership qualities is beginning to reflect on the operations of FAAN.

Capt. Yadudu has a lot of interest in Human Capital Development, which was not all encompassing in the past. Possibly because of the cost of training, out-of- station or even abroad. Hence there has been continuous in-plant training. This has been going on in batches and cuts across all cadres and departments of FAAN. This all inclusive trend is greatly appreciated amongst staff as this is a departure from what was obtained in the past.

During a recent meeting which the MD held with some management staff, some of the senior staff in attendance hailed a recently concluded course which he attended at FAAN training school. He suggested that particular training should go round not just all FAAN Staff, but also other airport staff and concessionaires.

For infrastructural development, Yadudu also has in the pipeline total refurbishment of Escalators, lifts and conveyor belts of MMA.

The Safety concerns of Enugu Airport have lingered for long. He took the bold step of closing the airport (against all odds) for total renovation and refurbishment which has started in earnest.
Work would soon also begin on the Taxiway B of MMA. Contractors have been mobilized to site. This would give the MMA an additional and alternate to Taxiway A.
This is also a milestone in airport facilitation.

In a bid to ensure a stable and healthy workforce, the FAAN MD recently approved a medical screening for the largest workforce of the organization – MMA. The outcome of the screening was quite revealing and beneficial to staff members. There are also plans to carry out this exercise in the headquarters and other stations all in a bid to ensure optimal productivity.

The new condition of service was also implemented a few weeks after he assumed office.

In recognition of his uncommon managerial skills, the FAAN MD, Captain Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu, was last Wednesday, October 17 appointed into the Board of Directors of the Airports Council International Africa (ACI-Africa).

This is just as former ACI-Africa President, and Former FAAN Managing Director, Engineer Saleh Dunoma on Sunday at the 62nd meeting of the ACI Africa Board, handed over to his successor, Mr Mohammed Zouhair El
Aoufir of Morocco.

Captain Yadudu’s appointment into the board was announced on Wednesday by Secretary General of ACI-Africa, Ali Tounsi at the ACI Africa Annual General Assembly.
Yadudu had on Tuesday evening been presented with a Plaque by the ACI received in his stead by General Manager, Corporate Communications, FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu.

The Plaque read,” Presented to Captain Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu with compliments of the 28th Airports Council International Africa (ACI-Africa) Annual General Assembly and Regional Conference and Exhibition, Accra, Ghana 12-18 October 2019” welcoming him into the ACI family haven been appointed Managing Director FAAN on May 20th, 2019.

Based on the foregoing, it is evident that Captain Rabiu Yadudu is indeed, committed to the onerous task of ensuring that FAAN develops into a global brand that profitably manage customer-centric airport facilities for safe, se cure and efficient carriage of passengers and goods at world-class standards of quality.
