22-year-old man ‘buys’ N4.6m car with fake alert in Ondo

The Ondo Police Command has apprehended Bakare Ayobami, a 22-year-old man, on charges of purchasing a vehicle using a counterfeit bank alert.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Akure, the state capital, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that the police arrested a 22-year-old man, Bakare Ayobami, in connection with a cybercrime case reported on October 26, 2023.

The suspect, a resident of Ode Irele in the Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State, allegedly visited a car stand owned by Mr. Filani Oluwaseun and Mr. Ogbaguwa Oluwasola on Ikare Road, Owo, on October 20, 2023, at around 18:00 hrs.

He purportedly purchased a Toyota Corolla 2006 model for N4,650,000.00 using a fraudulent bank alert.

Omisanya stated that, based on intelligence gathered, police operatives from the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad apprehended Ayobami Bakare and his accomplice, 26-year-old Abdullahi Abubakar, in Ekiti.

“The stolen vehicle was recovered in Osogbo, Osun State, while another Toyota Camry 2014 model valued at N6.2 million suspected to have been stolen, was also recovered from the suspect,” the statement read.

“Other items recovered include one iPhone 12 PRO Max valued at N600,000.00k and one iPhone 14 PRO, all purchased with fake transfer,” she said.

Mrs. Omisanya stated that the suspect has admitted to the crime, and following the completion of the police investigation, he will be brought to court for charges.
