52-yr-old man dies during fight with debtor In Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man named Ononomeh Badamasi in connection with the death of a 52-year-old man named Orumidayo Awolowo, who was demanding money owed to him.

The incident reportedly occurred in the Ogbeh community, situated in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of the state.

SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the State Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this during an interview on Monday.

He explained that the alleged perpetrator was apprehended by officers from the Igarra Police Division after a complaint was filed by the deceased’s brother. The complaint stated that the suspect had purchased a knife from the deceased but failed to fulfill the payment. The tragic incident unfolded when the deceased requested to be compensated.

He explained that the suspect, identified as Ononomeh Badamasi, was taken into custody by officers from the Igarra Police Division. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by the deceased’s brother, who alleged that the suspect had purchased a knife from the deceased but failed to fulfill the payment. The unfortunate incident transpired when the deceased requested to be compensated.

Nwabuzor said, “The Edo State Police Command has arrested Ononomeh Badamasi for allegedly killing a 52-year-old man, Orumidayo Awolowo, who went to demand money owed him.

“A fight was said to have ensued between the two and the deceased was said to have fallen and died.”

He reported that the police arrived at the scene and found that irate youths had set fire to three houses and a motorcycle in response to the incident.

The PPRO further mentioned that the suspect has admitted to the offense, and the deceased’s body has been placed in a mortuary pending an autopsy.

“A fight was said to have ensued between the two and the deceased was said to have fallen and died.”

He mentioned that the police arrived at the location and found that three residences and a motorcycle had been set on fire by enraged youths due to the incident.

The PPRO also stated that the suspect has acknowledged his involvement in the crime, and the deceased’s body has been placed in a mortuary for further examination through an autopsy
