The Amotekun Corps, known as the Western Nigeria Security Network, nabbed 11 individuals on various charges in Ondo State.

Amotekun Corps Commander in Ondo State, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, announced this during a press briefing in Akure on Wednesday.

Adeleye emphasized the command’s commitment to minimizing criminal activities during the holiday season, stating that they had apprehended six suspects in possession of homemade weapons, some of which were altered in length.

He further mentioned that the command had deployed its personnel to all high-risk areas with around-the-clock patrol teams.

Furthermore, he noted that the corps had joined forces with other security agencies to significantly decrease criminal activities, particularly during the holiday season

“We are determined to make this act of theirs impossible and we are sending this message to them and anybody planning to foment trouble during this yuletide, that it is not business as usual again.”

“You will recall that last year, we were able to rescue over 100 kidnapped or robbed people, but for this year’s patrol, we are ready to do more and we thank the people and ask for more support this year,” he said.

The commander also reported that the command had documented 20 incidents of commercial motorcyclists being fatally attacked and having their motorcycles stolen within a span of three weeks.

He declared that commercial motorcyclists would no longer be allowed to operate on the roads after 6 p.m. in the state.

He clarified that the government’s prohibition on commercial motorcycles from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. remains in effect, with exceptions made for motorcycles engaged in essential services.

“We want to appeal to commercial motorcyclists to go and rest if they work for 12 hours so that we can identify the criminal entities.”

“It is also no longer permitted for vehicles to ply the road without registration numbers, and all vehicles with tinted glass should obtain Police permits for them.”

“Dealers should use dealer numbers plates, not stickers because all vehicles with stickers only will be impounded.”

“These are some measures we put in place to guarantee the safety of lives and properties in Ondo State,” Adel said.
