The Osun Amotekun Corps on Friday says it arrested a 25-year-old man who works as a private security guard for allegedly stealing nine air conditioners in Osogbo.

Brig-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, the Commander of Osun Amotekun, stated in a release that the suspect, Michael Eze from Ebonyi State, was arrested after purportedly selling the stolen air conditioners to scrap buyers in Osogbo.

“The suspect was arrested on Monday after the owners of the house he was engaged to guard in GRA, Osogbo, reported to Amotekun that their air conditioners had been stolen.

“After his arrest, he confessed to having stolen and sold the air conditioners, worth N400,000 each, to scrap buyers in Osogbo for N5,000 per one.

“The suspect equally confessed that it was not his first time stealing his employer’s property,” Adewinmbi said.

The Amotekun commander mentioned that two of the air conditioners he had sold were subsequently retrieved from their purchasers.

He further noted that the suspect has been transferred to the custody of the Director of the State Security Service (DSS) for further questioning and legal proceedings.

The commander emphasized the importance of collaboration between the public and security agencies in combating crime in the state. He encouraged citizens to assist by sharing information that could aid in preventing criminal activities.
