Osun Amotekun Corps on Tuesday said it nabbed a 24-year old man for allegedly stealing electric transformer cables in Iwaro Community in Ilesa, Osun State.

Brig-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, the Osun Amotekun Commander, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the suspect was caught in the act on Monday at 4:00 a.m.

“A young man, Abiodun Timileyin, 24, was arrested by operatives of Amotekun,  in the early hours of Monday after he was spotted by residents stealing feeder pillar cables inside a transformer.

“The residents alerted operatives of Amotekun from Ilesa Area Command to the crime and our officers swiftly swung into action and arrested the suspect during the act.

“During interrogation,  the suspect confessed to the act and he had been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), with exhibits, for further investigation and prosecution.”

Likewise, Adewinmbi mentioned that two individuals suspected of motorcycle theft were apprehended by local hunters in the Aisu area of Ede on Thursday and subsequently handed over to the Amotekun Corps.

The commander of the corps clarified that the suspects tricked a commercial motorcyclist into consuming beef jerky (kilishi) laced with a sedative drug, causing him to fall asleep. Seizing the opportunity, they made off with his motorcycle.

However, luck was not on the side of the suspects, as local hunters, recognizing the motorcycle, intercepted them and inquired about the owner’s whereabouts.

Adewinmbi commended the local hunters for apprehending the suspects, who, he noted, specialized in stealing motorcycles in Ede town. He urged both commercial motorcyclists and residents to exercise caution when approached by strangers offering gifts or food.

He mentioned that the apprehended individuals had been delivered to the police for further inquiry and legal proceedings.
