Bandits recognized as pirates who have been causing fear and unrest in the Bakana waterways of Degema Local Government Area in Rivers State, have fatally attacked four personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The lifeless bodies of the deceased personnel were observed placed in a boat, which was seen drifting along the riverbank in a video that circulated widely.

Concerned onlookers were able to identify a couple of the victims by the names of Chibuzo and Chief Priest.
Reports indicate that the two Muslim victims out of the four have been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs, while the remaining two have been taken to the mortuary.
Efforts to reach the Corps’ Public Relations Officer (PRO), Olufemi Ayodele, for comments have been unsuccessful.
