An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 27-year-old man, Ayeni Gbenga, in an Ado-Ekiti correctional centre for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for rape.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between October and December in Ado-Ekiti.
Oriyomi said that the defendant defiled the girl who was his wife’s younger sister.
The prosecutor revealed that the defendant would allegedly take the victim to school and stop at a hotel where he repeatedly defiled her.
He stated that the offense violated Section 265 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, and requested the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The defendant’s plea was not taken during the hearing.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun subsequently ordered the defendant’s remand at the correctional center and adjourned the case to January 27, 2025, for further mention.
