Cult groups clash in Ogun, four feared dead

In the late hours of Sunday, an unidentified number of suspected cultists attacked the Ijagba Sagamu region of Ogun State, killing four individuals in a cult-related clash.

According to eyewitness accounts, the group shot two people as they attacked Ijagba Street, next to the community’s mosque, on Sunday.

The two victims killed were eventually identified as Olasunkanmi Ajayi and an unidentified woman, both of whom were shot in the head by state police.

An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity claimed the son of the deceased woman who was shot in the head prevented the police from removing the body of the deceased victim to the hospital.

A source in the state police command told our correspondent that empty cartridges were recovered from the crime scene.

Meanwhile, as the police team led by the Area Commander of Sagamu, Shehu Alao, was restoring peace in the area, another clash ensued as two alleged Aiye confraternity members shot two persons dead.

Speaking with media on Monday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said at least two arrests had been made and that the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, was on the ground to assess the situation.
