Customs seizes15 trucks of food items in Sokoto

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized 15 trucks loaded with food items in Sokoto State as part of its measures to curb smuggling, which has worsened the increasing prices of goods in the nation.

Mr. Abubakar Chafe, the spokesperson for the NCS Sokoto Command, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday that vehicles were apprehended along the Gwadabawa-Illela road.

Chafe stated that the interceptions occurred due to the large quantity of farm produce the trucks were transporting.

He mentioned that the trucks are currently under the custody of the command, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the owners and intended destinations of the food items.

He clarified that the operation was conducted by a joint team comprising the NCS Sokoto Command, officers from the Federal Operation Unit, and the Intelligence Unit of the Service.

Chafe emphasized that the operation was deemed necessary given the ongoing inflation of food items in the country.
