The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 66 suspected internet fraudsters during sting operations carried out in Ogun and Lagos states.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, disclosed this in a statement released on Friday in Abuja.
According to Oyewale, 55 of the suspects were arrested on Wednesday at K Hotel in the Itori area of Ewekoro, Ogun State, while the remaining 11 were picked up on Thursday at Tulip Haven, located in the Chevron area of Lekki, Lagos State.
He noted that the arrests were based on credible and actionable intelligence linking the individuals to alleged internet-related fraud activities.
The commission’s spokesman said that items recovered from the suspects in Ogun included six exotic cars, two locally-made pistols, one motorcycle, several mobile phones and laptops, incriminating documents, 89 unclaimed phones, among others.
Oyewale also said that the commission recovered one Range Rover, three Mercedes‑Benz vehicles, two Lexus vehicles, and one Toyota vehicle from the 11 suspects arrested in Lagos.
Also recovered were 15 iPhones, two Android phones, one Nokia torch phone, and one MacBook.
Oyewale said that all the suspects had given useful information to the commission and would be charged in court soon.
