EFCC nab eight suspected internet fraudsters in Akwa Ibom

The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of eight individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Akwa Ibom State.

According to a statement from EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Wednesday, the arrests were made in the Osongama Extension area of the state on Thursday, May 2, 2024, following actionable intelligence.

Oyewale detailed that the items seized from the suspects included seven laptops, 13 smartphones, two wristwatches, and one router.

He also stated that the suspects would be prosecuted once the investigations are completed.

“Operatives of Uyo Zonal Command of the EFCC on Thursday May 2, 2024 arrested eight suspected internet fraudsters in an early morning sting operation at Osong Ama Extension in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

“They were arrested following credible intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet fraud.

“Items recovered from them include, seven laptops; 13 smart phones; two wrist watches and one router,” the statement read.
