The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Friday, arrested 41 individuals suspected of internet fraud in Warri, Delta State.
According to reports, the arrests were a result of a sting operation conducted based on intelligence reports. Information suggests that the individuals were apprehended by EFCC operatives from the Benin Zonal Command.
A statement released by the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said the suspects were “involved in various forms of online fraud, such as romance scams, identity theft, phishing and money laundering”.
It affirmed that the suspects have made statements that are helpful to the investigation, and they will be charged in court once the investigation is complete.
Among the items confiscated from the individuals, as stated by Uwujaren, were eight luxury vehicles, including two Toyota Venzas, one Range Rover, one Lexus EX 350, two Lexus RX 350s, one Toyota Camry, one Mercedes-Benz C300, and a Mercedes-Benz GLK, as well as mobile phones and laptops.
The EFCC called on the public to be on the lookout for suspicious activities of internet fraudsters and report them to the nearest EFCC office or through the commission’s website.
