Four people were killed in a terrorist attack on a Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) facility at the Kangiwa border in Kebbi State on Friday evening.
The victims included a local watchman and three contractors working on-site.
In a statement on Sunday, NIS spokesperson Kenneth Udo confirmed the attack, which occurred around 7:20 pm and caused significant damage to the facility’s security infrastructure. However, no immigration officers were harmed.
“The service regrets to announce a recent attack by a suspected terrorist group on our facilities and contractors at the Kangiwa border in Kebbi State. The attack led to the death of four persons and substantial damage to our security facilities,” the statement read.
Udo extended condolences to the victims’ families and assured the public that the service is working with other security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The Kebbi State Police Command also confirmed the incident, reporting that suspected Lakurawa bandits attacked Gumki village in Arewa Local Government Area, killing a resident and three telecom contractors.
The NIS reiterated its commitment to maintaining border security and securing the nation.
