Gunmen attack Police Station in Ebonyi, six killed

Six suspects reportedly lost their lives during an assault on Ishieke police station in Ebonyi Local Government area of Ebonyi state by gunmen.

The assailants, who attacked the police station around 9 pm on Wednesday, initiated gunfire, causing widespread panic among the community and prompting residents to flee for safety.

According to an eyewitness interviewed by Channels Television, police officers engaged the gunmen in a 30-minute gun battle outside the station before additional security personnel arrived to reinforce the defense.

A circulating video on Thursday morning depicted the bodies of suspected individuals allegedly shot dead, believed to be linked to the attackers.

Additionally, two vehicles were visibly set on fire during the incident.

Those injured in the attack are currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi state.

As of the time of this report, the police authorities had not released any official statement regarding the incident.

Interestingly, the assault occurred shortly after Elizabeth Egbetokun, the wife of the Inspector General of Police, visited the Ebonyi state police command for an extensive empowerment program.
