Gunmen kidnap 25 travellers in Ondo

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted 25 travellers along the Owo/Ifon/Benin Expressway in Ondo State.

The fatalities are claimed to be members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Igan Choir in Akure, the state capital.

The abductors were claimed to have attacked around 3 p.m. on Friday in the vicinity of Elegbeka village, when they were on their way to Ifon for a funeral service.

SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the event via text message.

She noted that the incident was reported to the police, that an empty bus with inscription of CAC was abandoned by the roadside around Elegbeka.

She said men of the anti-kidnapping Squad of the Command have been drafted to the area to rescue the victims and apprehend the culprits.

The Owo/Ifon/Benin Expressway has become a dangerous corridor as several cases of kidnappings and armed robbery have happened in the area in recent times.

It would be recalled that a grade A traditional ruler in the State, The Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi was killed around Elegbeka while travelling from Akure to Ifon in November, 2020.
