Gunmen kidnap wife, brother as target escapes in Gombe

Suspected gunmen who attacked Shabewa village in Dukku local government, Gombe State, kidnapped one of the wives and brother of a kidnap target who escaped, Police said on Monday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Muazu, released a statement on Monday, indicating that at approximately 02:55 am on Sunday, suspected kidnappers, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, attacked the residence of Umar Sambo in Shabewa ward, Dukku, within Dukku Local Government Area. They inquired about his whereabouts from his first wife.

“Fortunately, he did not sleep in her room and the man was alerted and escaped into the bush before the kidnappers entered the second wife’s room, but after searching all rooms and not finding him, they kidnapped one of his wives, namely Amina Usman Aliyu, and his brother, Mustapha Sambo of the same address.”

Muazu stated that police patrol units, working in conjunction with local vigilantes and hunters, were in pursuit of them within the forest, acting on orders from the Commissioner of Police.

He said: “CP Etim assures the good citizens of Dukku and the state at large of the command’s readiness and commitment to securing their lives and properties. The Command urges residents to remain calm and provide us with useful information that will aid in the quick rescue of the victims through the command’s emergency number 08150567771.”

“Finally, the command implores the public to disregard any misleading information being circulated by mischief makers who are bent on portraying the state in bad light for their selfish interests,” he said.
