Two Nigerian women have been arrested by railway police in Delhi, India, following the alleged seizure of 2.28 kilogrammes of cocaine valued at approximately Rs20 crore, equivalent to about N380 million.
The suspects were identified as 43-year-old Chikanso James and 41-year-old Happiness Okoye. According to The New Indian Express, they were arrested during a patrol operation on Platform One of Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.
Police said the women became suspicious to officers because of their behaviour, leading to a search conducted under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
During the search, officers allegedly found 11 packets containing suspected cocaine in James’s possession.
The substance was later examined by the crime team and forensic experts, who reportedly confirmed that it was cocaine.
Investigators believe the seized drugs were connected to an interstate trafficking network operating between Mumbai and the Delhi-NCR region.
According to the police, James told investigators that the consignment had been collected from Vikaspuri.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to identify other people allegedly involved in the trafficking network and trace its financial and supply routes.
Following their arrests, James was remanded in police custody, while Okoye was placed in judicial custody as investigations continue.
