Katsina police engage terrorists on highway, kill one, recover AK-47

On Monday afternoon, Katsina State Police Command personnel engaged terrorists in a gun battle along Danmusa/Yantumaki Road in the state’s Danmusa Local Government Area, killing one terrorist.

During the encounter, police said they recovered one AK-47 rifle.

On Tuesday, the command’s spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, said terrorists had blocked the road near Kesassa Village.

Isah said, “On March 27, 2023, at about 2.30 pm, a distress call was received that terrorists in their numbers, were shooting sporadically with AK-47 rifles, had blocked Danmusa–Yantumaki Road, Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

“Consequently, DPO Danmusa Division, led a team of policemen to the area, engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel and successfully repelled them.

“In the course of scanning the scene, one of the terrorists-bandits was neutralised and his dead body recovered. Additionally, one AK-47 rifle  with twenty-two (22) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition of AK-47 rifle was also recovered at the scene.”

Isah alleged that many terrorists were reasonably believed to have been killed and/or escaped the scene with gunshot wounds.

“Search parties are combing the nearest bushes intending to arrest them and/or recover their dead bodies,” he added.

Isah also appealed to members of the communities around the area to report to the nearest police station, any person found or seen with a suspected injury.

He added, “The Command appreciates the efforts of the police for the display of uncommon courage, gallantry and professionalism in dealing with the hoodlums.”
