Murder suspect of Nigerian man in India nabbed four years later

The Indian police have successfully nabbed one of the individuals involved in the homicide of a Nigerian man, aged 35, in Nalasopara, Mumbai, which occurred four years ago.

According to the Times of India, the accused, a 28-year-old individual named Kancha, was residing in the same town under a false identity, as confirmed by a crime branch official on October 17, 2023.

With Kancha’s apprehension, who also goes by the aliases Roshan Bechain Mandal and Ashfaq Mohammad Sheikh, the total number of individuals in custody in connection to the incident now stands at two, while two others remain at large.

This unfortunate event pertained to the discovery of the body of Joseph, also known as Chindiniju Amechi Wilson, on a road in the Pragati Nagar area of Nalasopara on October 16, 2019.

In the wake of this occurrence, Nigerian residents living in the area voiced their indignation, leading to the vandalism of parked vehicles and calls for the capture of those responsible.

During their investigation, the police identified four men suspected of being involved in the incident and took Nasir Khan into custody. Following this, an official from the Vasai crime branch (unit II) verified that a charge sheet had been submitted against him in court.

Police were alerted to information suggesting that the defendant, Kancha, also known as Roshan Mandal, had relocated to Bengaluru six months after the incident and had adopted a new identity. He was discovered living in Nalasopara under the alias Ashfaq Sheikh, with noticeable changes to his physical appearance.

Authorities have ascertained that the murder is connected to a drug transaction.
